Feeding the Hungry

Updated: Mar 20, 2021

While walking into a Rite Aid, I noticed an older woman sitting on a bench outside the store. She said, “I’m hungry, can you please get me some food?” I purchased a sandwich and bottled water and gave them to her as I left. She looked up at me with an expression of complete astonishment and heartfelt thanks. As her eyes welled up with tears, she said softly, “come here,” and motioned for me to move in closer. I moved in and she reached for my face, cradled it in her hands and kissed my cheek. I kissed her cheek back and chocked up as her glossy, grateful eyes seemed to penetrate my soul. This experience has had a profound effect on me. The simple act of giving food to someone that was hungry became so much more. Her gift of thanks changed me forever.
